Residence of an EU citizen - staff of an embassy or international organization

Main information

If you are a citizen of the European Union and reside in the Czech Republic as a member of the staff of a foreign embassy or accredited international governmental organization, you can apply for a certificate of temporary residence of a European Union citizen in the territory issued in the form of an identity card.

You can also request the issuance of such a certificate if you are a citizen of the European Union and at the same time a family member of one of the above-mentioned citizens of the European Union, if you are registered as such by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

This applies to you if

  • You are a citizen of the European Union and you reside in the territory of the Czech Republic as a member of the staff of the embassy of a foreign state.
  • You are a citizen of the European Union and reside in the Czech Republic as a member of the staff of an international governmental organization accredited in the Czech Republic
  • You are a citizen of the European Union, you are also a family member of a citizen of the European Union who resides in the Czech Republic as a member of the embassy staff or as a member of an international governmental organization, and as such you are registered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

When to use this service

You can apply for a temporary residence permit in the form of an identification card after you arrive (enter) in the Czech Republic. The submission of such an application is not obligatory, because as a citizen of the European Union you can stay in the Czech Republic without any special permit, only on the basis of your travel or identity document.

What you need if you are using this service

To apply for a certificate of temporary residence of a citizen of the European Union in the territory, issued in the form of an identification card, you must submit the original of a valid travel document and two photographs. If you are a citizen of the European Union and a family member of an EU citizen who is a member of staff of an embassy or accredited international organization, provide proof that you are a family member of that EU citizen (eg marriage certificate, birth certificate).

If you are applying by post, it is sufficient to send a copy of the data page of the travel document and (possibly) an officially certified copy of the document confirming that you are a family member of an EU citizen.
