Surrender of identity card

Main information

You are obliged to surrender your identity card if:

  • you have terminated your permanent residence in the Czech Republic,
  • you have forfeited your nationality,
  • you have been shown to have been issued with an identity card unlawfully,
  • your identity card is no longer valid.

This applies to you if

You are obliged to surrender your identity card within 15 working days to the authority which issued it or to the registry office based on your place of residence, if:

  • you have terminated your permanent residence in the Czech Republic,
  • you have forfeited your nationality,
  • you have been shown to have been issued with an identity card unlawfully,
  • your identity card is no longer valid.

When to use this service

You should surrender your identity card when you terminate your permanent residence in the Czech Republic, forfeit your Czech nationality, it is found that you have been issued with an identity card illegally, or your identity card is no longer valid.

You will need to appear in person at the competent authority and surrender your identity card.
