Recognition of education from the European Schools

Main information

European Schools are established under the Convention on the Statute for European Schools, mainly for the children of staff of EU institutions, but also for the children of staff from permanent embassies and other missions of Member States to the European Communities.

The European Schools educate not only the children of staff of the European Union institutions, but also the children of staff from permanent embassies and other missions, and the children of teachers and school administrators. The children of employees of private companies and other persons can also attend European Schools, but only if there is available capacity.

European Schools teach in all the languages of the EU Member States, and Czech sections of the European Schools are established at the European Schools in Brussels III and Luxembourg. Certificates (at primary and secondary level) issued by European Schools are recognised as equivalent according to the principles of the European Schools Convention by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports on the basis of an application published on the website of the Ministry of Education.

The European Baccalaureate certificate is, without further ado, automatically considered to be equivalent to the Czech grammar school-leaving certificate, but even in this case it can be confirmed by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports with a document of recognition of the equivalence of this certificate.

Further information can be found on the website of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to convert the education documents accompanying my application?

It is possible to convert documents in paper form (up to 150 pages) at public administration contact points. For time reasons, it is not possible to convert larger documents at the contact points, but it is possible to use a specialized workplace of the Czech Post, which is equipped for these needs.
The converted document in electronic form can be delivered to the customer in one of the following ways:

  • on CD (the customer receives the CD free of charge at the contact point),
  • on a USB flash drive (if the customer brings their own drive),
  • by uploading it to the electronic Czech POINT Storage Site. In this case, the customer is given a confirmation that the document has been uploaded to the Storage Site, either in print or sent to a data mailbox.
