Motorway vignettes (electronic vignettes)

Main information

In the Czech republic, the use of certain sections of the motorway network by a road transport vehicles with four or more wheels and a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 t is subject to charges (requirement to purchase an electronic vignette). The key information for determining the maximum permissible weight of a vehicle is the registration certificate (technical certificate) – it does not matter if a trailer is to be attached to the vehicle resulting in a combined weight of more than 3.5 tonnes.

Vignettes can be pruchased for a period of 1 day, 10 days, 30 days or 1 year. A road transport vehicle with a maximum permissible weight of up to 3.5 tonnes can make unlimited use of the Czech republic’s motorway network for the period covered by the vignette.

Frequently asked questions

I have a road transport vehicle powered by electricity or hydrogen, or powered in combination with these fuels, and with CO2 emissions in combined operation of not more than 50 g/km. Do I have to purchase a vignette?
No, these vehicles are exempt from charges in Czechia. Vehicles exempt from vignette charges but not assigned a registration number for electric and foreign vehicles must be registered with the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure before they are used on motorway toll sections (for more information see the portal eDalnice.cz).
Can I set the start date of the period for which I will purchase a vignette?
Yes, the start date can be up to 3 months after the payment date of the charge (this applies to all three types of vignettes).
I have a category M1 motor home with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tonnes. Should I pay just the vignette charge for this vehicle?
No, the vehicle’s maximum permissible weight is the decisive factor for determining the charge. A motor home with a maximum permissible weight of more than 3.5 tonnes must be registered in the Electronic Toll System and tolls must be paid when toll roads are used (for more information see the portal MYTOCZ.EU).
