Application for an alien's passport

An alien’s passport is a travel document that some foreign nationals can apply for if they do not have a valid travel document and cannot obtain a new one in the country of their nationality for reasons beyond their control.

The passport is issued with worldwide territorial validity. It is generally issued for 10 years, or for 5 years for foreign nationals under the age of 15. The validity is in some cases determined individually and may be shortened. The validity cannot be extended.

This applies to you if

You can apply for an alien’s passport as a foreign national if:

  • you have a permanent residence permit for the Czech Republic, you do not have a valid travel document, and you can demonstrate that you cannot obtain a new document independently of your will, or
  • you are entitled to permanent residence in the Czech Republic due to being placed in foster care, and you do not have a travel document, or
  • you have been granted additional protection.

When to use this service

You can apply for an alien’s passport if you need to travel as a foreign national, do not have a valid travel document, and can demonstrate that you are unable to obtain one independently of your will. You must also meet the conditions for its issue given above.

What you need if you are using this service

You can also submit the application form for an alien’s passport at a Ministry of the Interior officesend it by post or submit it through an authorised representative.

  • Photographs

Where and how to solve this service

If you wish to send your application by post, send it together with the relevant documents to the Ministry of the Interior office responsible for your registered place of residence in the Czech Republic.

How much will you pay

An alien’s passport is subject to an administrative fee of CZK 600, CZK 100 for persons under the age of 15. 

The administrative fee is payable only when the document is issued. It must therefore be paid by credit card at a Ministry of the Interior office.

What is the benefit of this service

An alien’s passport allows you to travel if you do not have your own travel document.

Appeal options

You may appeal against a decision within 15 days of notification thereof. You may submit your appeal in person, or send it by post (or electronically) to the relevant Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic office or to the contact address of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic.
