Children in pre-school education are usually between theages of 3 and 6. The obligation to enter pre-school education is in the school year following the child's 5th birthday.
The decision to admit a child to pre-school education is made by the school principle on the basis of an application from the child's legal guardian.
After assessing the criteria, the school principal will display the list of admitted children in a publicly accessible place and will also deliver to the legal guardians the decision to reject the application for admission of the child to pre-school education.

You have a child over 3 years of age who is not enrolled in pre-school education. Alternatively, if you are applying for the first time for a child who is 5 years old and has an obligation to start pre-school education.

As a rule, from the age of three until the start of compulsory school attendance.

What you need if you are using this service
Submit an application for admission of the child to kindergarten and a certificate of the child's completed vaccinations.
The application shall contain
- name(s) and surname of the child and the legal guardian,
- personal number and
- place of permanent residence of the child and the legal guardian, in the case of a foreigner the place of residence.
There is no application form, but you can use the form published by the kindergarten itself on its website.
Where and how to solve this service
The application for admission of a child to pre-school education is submitted in person or by mail at the catchment kindergarten. The catchment kindergarten is determined by city/municipal ordinance.

What is the benefit of this service
Pre-school education develops the child's personality, promotes their physical development and health, personal satisfaction and well-being, helps them to understand the world around them and motivates them to further cognition and learning, as well as teaches the child to live in the company of others and to bring them closer to the norms and values recognized by society. It is an educational and personal preparation for compulsory primary education.
In the case of a child over the age of five, you also fulfil the legal obligation of compulsory pre-school education for the child.
Appeal options
An appeal against the principal’s decision not to admit a child to pre-school education is submitted through the kindergarten to the locally competent regional authority or Prague City Hall.
