Screening programmes

National screening programmes have been developed: 

  • Colorectal tumour screening – colonoscopy examination – the target group are people from 50 years of age, with a frequency of once every 10 years. More information can be found on the Colorectal cancer screening website
  • Breast cancer screening (mammary) – radiological examination by mammogram, or ultrasound examination; the target group are women from 45 years of age, with a frequency of once every 2 years. More information can be found on the Mammography Screening Programme in Czechia website 
  • Cervical screening – microscopic examination of a cytological smear of the cervix; t
    he target group are women after the start of sexual activity with a frequency of once a year. More information can be found on the cervical screening website  
  • Neonatal screening – more information can be found on the neonatal screening website

Health insurance companies have a direct approach programme, in which they approach their policyholders and invite them to undergo a screening examination – Approach programme for screening examinations. More information can be found on the Colorectal cancer screening website

Participation in a screening programme is voluntary, is one of a patient's rights and is covered by health insurance for insured persons who are citizens of Czechia.
