Description of the service

Having health insurance is your legal obligation. For every day that you are not paid, you are charged a penalty.

This applies to you if
  • you are unemployed,
  • you are a graduate of primary, secondary or higher education, you will not continue your studies and you do not have a job yet.
When you have to deal with it

By the 8th day of the month following the end of the previous employment. For example, if you quit your job on the 31st. You must pay for your health insurance within 8 working days of September.

If you have not completed school and your studies have been completed for any reason other than obtaining a degree, you must start paying by the 8th day of the following month after graduation.

After graduating from high school, the state pays for your insurance during the summer holidays (July and August). Starting in September, you will have to start paying for your insurance.

After you have successfully completed college, the state pays for your insurance until the end of the month following the month in which you completed your studies. If you passed the exam in mid-June, for example, the state will pay for your health insurance until the end of July.

If after high school you continue to study at university and you are not yet 26 years old, you do not have to pay health insurance during the holidays. Don't forget to enroll in college in time.

Where and how to deal with it

Insurance premiums can be paid in person at the branches of the insurance company. Contact points can be found on your insurance company's website.

On the website of your health insurance company you will also find a bank account where you will pay the insurance premiums.

How much will you pay

The payment is 13.5% of the minimum wage applicable in the year in question.

You will not pay health insurance if you are registered as an applicant or job seeker at the Labour Office of the Czech Republic. However, it should be remembered that at the Labour Office of the Czech Republic you always ask for employment mediation in the first place. You cannot be required to be registered as a jobseeker for the sole reason that you meet the condition for receiving a social benefit or have a guaranteed health and social insurance payment.
