• The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is a document that entitles a person to necessary healthcare
• The EHIC is issued automatically when health insurance is taken out for persons covered by the Coordination Regulations. It is not necessary to apply for it separately.
• The following health insurance companies currently operate in the Czech Republic:

Všeobecná zdravotní pojišťovna České republiky,

as well as the following 6 employee insurance companies:

• Vojenská zdravotní pojišťovna České republiky,
• Česká průmyslová zdravotní pojišťovna,
• Oborová zdravotní pojišťovna zaměstnanců bank, pojišťoven a stavebnictví,
• Zaměstnanecká pojišťovna Škoda,
• Zdravotní pojišťovna ministerstva vnitra České republiky,
• Revírní bratrská pokladna, zdravotní pojišťovna.

the EHIC is issued to all insured persons covered by the Coordination Regulations. As it is issued as a national insurance card, each holder is entitled to receive full health care in the territory of the State of affiliation and essential health care in the country of residence.

The EHIC is usually issued automatically as a result of another event (establishment of insurance in the Czech Republic, change of health insurance company, notification of loss or damage, expiry of the old card).

As a rule, this is a service that is linked to other events. In exceptional cases where the card is not sent automatically, you can apply in person.

You can apply for a card at any branch of the health insurance company. To issue a new card, an identity document or identity document of the legal representative is required.
