Vocational rehabilitation is a continuous activity aimed at obtaining and maintaining suitable employment for persons with disabilities

Vocational rehabilitation is a complex system of services (forms of vocational rehabilitation) designed to facilitate the entry of persons with disabilities into the open labour market. 

Vocational rehabilitation includes in particular

• Guidance on the choice of a career, employment or other gainful activity,
• Theoretical and practical training for employment or other gainful activity, including
  • preparation for a future occupation according to specific legislation (includes occupational guidance and activities to help the participant in vocational rehabilitation choose a future occupation – in particular occupational tests, information about studying and information about employment after graduation),
  • work preparation (activities aimed at placing a disabled person in a suitable job and acquiring the knowledge, skills and habits necessary for the performance of the selected employment or other gainful activity; the preparation lasts no longer than 24 months and may take place with the employer of the disabled person, at workplaces for disabled people (§ 75a and 78a) or in educational establishments),
  • specialised retraining courses,
• activities aimed at mediating, keeping and changing employment or careers,
• creating suitable conditions for employment or other gainful activity.

Vocational rehabilitation is intended for people with disabilities.

Natural persons who are recognised as temporarily unable to work may be included in occupational rehabilitation on the basis of a recommendation from the attending physician issued on behalf of the health service provider, and natural persons who have ceased to be disabled may also be included on the basis of a recommendation from the District Social Security Administration issued as part of a medical examination.

When to use this service

You can apply for vocational rehabilitation at any time if your health status has changed and you are disabled, handicapped or temporarily unable to work.

What you need if you are using this service

You need to fill in the Application for Vocational Rehabilitation form.

Please attach one of the following documents to your application:

• An assessment, statement or decision of a social security authority as to the 3^rd degree of disability.
• An assessment, statement or decision of a social security authority as to the 2^rd degree of disability.
• An assessment, statement or decision of a social security authority as to the 1^rd degree of disability.
• A statement or decision of a social security authority as to the recognition of the person as handicapped.
• A decision of the Labour Office as to the recognition of the person as handicapped.
• A recommendation from the attending physician issued on behalf of the health service provider as to the recognition of the person as temporarily unable to work.
• A recommendation from the District Social Security Administration issued in the context of a medical examination as to the person ceasing to be disabled.
• A decision of a social security authority as to the person losing the status of disability during the last 12 months.

You can file your application at the contact point of the Czech Labour Office relevant to the applicant’s place of permanent residence (place of residence).

Where and how to solve this service

You can submit your application via the Integrated Portal of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

When submitting electronically via the website, you must own a data box or have a qualified electronic signature certificate.

You can fill in the form and the individual annexes separately on the website of the Labour Office – the online form and form annexes – and send each one separately. Or you can fill them in as an online form with annexes, where you sequentially fill in the form and the necessary annexes and they will all be sent electronically together.

Appeal options

If you have a complaint about the implementation of vocational rehabilitation, you can file a complaint with the regional branch of the Labour Office of the Czech Republic, which implemented the individual forms of vocational rehabilitation with you.
