The Czech Social Security Administration, as the pension payer, may increase the old-age pension on request for the period of gainful activity performed after the entitlement to this pension was established without receiving it or receiving an invalidity pension for third-degree disability.
Early retirement pension
An insured person who has fulfilled the conditions for entitlement to an early retirement pension (i.e. the conditions of Section 31 of the Pension Insurance Act) and has been gainfully employed after reaching retirement age without receiving such a pension or an invalidity pension for third-degree invalidity is subject to the same rules as an insured person who has fulfilled the conditions for entitlement to an ordinary retirement pension, as set out for this service. This means that this insured person can also apply for an increase in early retirement pension by 1.5% of the calculation base for every 90 days of gainful activity performed after retirement age without receiving a pension.
You are an insured person who has fulfilled the conditions for entitlement to an ordinary old-age pension (i.e. the conditions referred to in Section 29(1) or Section 29(3)(a) of the Pension Insurance Act) and, after becoming entitled to this pension, you are engaged in gainful activity giving rise to participation in pension insurance (you are employed or running a business), but at the same time you are not receiving this pension or an invalidity pension for third-degree invalidity.
There are 2 situations in which you qualify for an old-age pension but do not receive it:
The old-age pension will be increased for each 90 calendar days of gainful activity after entitlement to this pension without receiving it or receiving an invalidity pension for third-degree invalidity. However, periods of unpaid leave, unexcused absences, temporary incapacity for work, caring for a household member or periods of receiving other sickness insurance benefits are not included in these 90 days.
If you are gainfully employed after you become entitled to an old-age pension (for early retirement pensions, after you reach retirement age) without being awarded and paid a pension.
If you do not want your retirement pension to be automatically increased as described above, you must request this in writing. The time spent in gainful activity after you become entitled to a pension (for early retirement pensions after retirement age) without receiving such a pension or a third-degree invalidity pension will be added to the period of insurance completed before you became entitled to that pension, to the extent you specify in your application.
If you have already been awarded and paid an old-age pension, but you subsequently ask for it to be suspended, you can ask for it to be released again and thus for it to be increased by 1.5% for every 90 days of gainful activity after you became entitled to the pension without receiving it.
If you continue to be gainfully employed while receiving an old-age pension, you can then apply for an increase in your pension percentage:
• by 0.4% of the calculation base for every 360 calendar days of gainful activity if you receive a full old-age pension (for more information, see the service ‘Adjustment of the amount of the old-age pension for the period of gainful activity performed after the entitlement to this pension was established in parallel with the receipt of a full pension - the application is handled by the Czech Social Security Administration’ (insert here a prolink to this service created by us).
• by 1.5% of the calculation base for every 180 calendar days of gainful activity if you receive a retirement pension at half the rate (for more information, see the service ‘Adjustment of the amount of retirement pension for the period of gainful activity performed after becoming entitled to this pension in parallel with receiving it at half the rate - the application is handled by the Czech Social Security Administration’ (insert here a prolink to this service created by us).
You must apply in writing for the release of the suspended payment of your old-age pension and, at the same time, for its adjustment for gainful activity, clearly specifying what you are applying for and the date from which you are applying for the release of the pension, your birth number, name, surname and the address or data box ID to which the decision on the matter is to be sent.
You may file your application:
The information given in this section does not apply if you are in gainful employment after you have become entitled to an old-age pension without having been awarded and paid the pension, as the increase will automatically take place at the same time as the decision on your application for an old-age pension is taken (see ‘When to apply for the pension’).
Contact details can be found on the Czech Social Security Administration website.
