Granting State Approval to Private Higher Education Institution

If you are interested in operating as a private higher education institution and providing education in the Czech Republic, you must be a legal entity that has its registered office in the territory of the European Union or that has been established or incorporated under the law of a Member State of the European Union. To operate as a private higher education institution, you must first obtain state approval issued by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

You are a legal entity and you are interested in operating as a private higher education institution. 

When to use this service

If you are interested in operating as a private higher education institution.

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports may also grant you state approval before registration in the Company or other register if your establishment or incorporation can be proved. In this case, you must submit an extract from the register to the Ministry within 15 days of receiving the relevant proof of registration. 

The Ministry will decide on your application within 150 days.

If the Ministry does not grant you state approval, you may submit a new application for state approval not earlier than one year after the date the final legal decision not to grant state approval.

What you need if you are using this service

- An application for state approval that includes:

1) the name, location, and type of higher education institution,

2) the legal form of the legal entity and the statutory body,

3) the strategic plan of the private higher education institution,

4) information on the personnel, financial, material and other security of the private higher education institution,

5) proposals for study programmes,

6) draft internal regulations governing the organisation and activities of the private higher education institution and the status of members of the academic community.

- A proof of payment of administrative fee: a copy of a bank statement or a copy of a money order.

How much will you pay

The acceptance of your application is conditional upon the payment of an administrative fee of CZK 100,000, which is due to receipt of the application by the Ministry.

The administrative fee should be paid to the account of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, by bank transfer or by money order to the bank account number:

If you do not pay the fee, the Ministry will discontinue the proceedings.
