Transfer to another high school

Main information

The School Act allows a pupil to transfer from one high school to another.

Upon transfer, the pupil ceases to be a pupil of one secondary school and becomes a pupil of another secondary school. As part of the transfer, the pupil may or may not change the field of education. The pupil does not have a legal right to transfer, it is decided by the headmaster of the school to which the pupil intends to transfer. As part of the transfer, the pupil ‘transfers’ from one secondary school to another and retains the status of a person who is constantly preparing for a future profession.

As part of the transfer decision, the headmaster of the school to which the pupil wishes to transfer may set an examination as a condition of transfer and determine its content, scope, date and criteria for its assessment. This examination must be taken by the pupil before the transfer decision is issued, since it is only on the basis of this decision that the headmaster of the school decides on the transfer.

If there is a change in the field of education during the transfer of the pupil to another secondary school, the condition of the necessity of the pupil's medical fitness is maintained if the new field of education requires it.

If the headmaster accepts a pupil to the school as part of the transfer, he/she is obliged to inform the headmaster of the school from which the pupil transferred about the transfer without undue delay. The headmaster of the original school is obliged to send the pupil's new school a copy of the pupil's documentation from the school registry within 5 working days of receiving the information about the pupil's transfer.
