Registration of a new or imported vehicle

If you have bought a new vehicle or imported a vehicle registered in another EU Member State into the Czech Republic and want to drive it on the roads in the Czech Republic, you must register the vehicle.

You can register your vehicle online on the Transport Portal and the application can be processed at any local authority, regardless of where you live in Czech Republic.

You have bought or imported a vehicle registered in EU country and want to drive it in the Czech Republic.

Register your car immediately after you have bought it or imported it if you intend to drive it in the Czech Republic.

What you need if you are using this service

When you visit the office, you must submit the following documents with your completed application form:

  • proof of your permanent, long-term or temporary residence in the Czech Republic; in the case of a legal entity, the applicant must submit proof of the company's registered office according to the extract from the Commercial Register,
  • proof of the vehicle's roadworthiness (technical licence, COC certificate or vehicle registration certificate issued by another Member State),
  • proof of a roadworthiness test and a vehicle registration inspection report not older than 30 days, in the case of an operational vehicle and
  • a certificate of payment of VAT in the case of the purchase of a new vehicle from another Member State.
If you use a power of attorney to represent yourself, the written power of attorney must be signed by a certified signature of the principal.

You can submit your application at any municipal office of the municipality with extended jurisdiction which carries out the vehicle registration agenda.

How much will you pay

The fee for the registration of a road vehicle and for the issue of a registration plate varies according to the type of vehicle being registered. 

For example, the fee for registration of a four-wheeled motor vehicle is CZK 800.

What you need if you are using this service

The application for registration can be submitted electronically with all required attachments. You have to visiti the office in person to pay the administrative fee and collect the vehicle documents and registration plates

On the Transport Portal, in the Vehicles section, select the Road Vehicle Register and click on the box "Registration of a road vehicle in the Road Vehicle Register"

You then fill in the personal details, whether the vehicle will be operated by someone else and the origin of the vehicle. Enter the vehicle identification number (VIN) and the purpose of the vehicle. 

You will choose the local authority where you will collect the completed documents and pay the administrative fee. 

You upload the following documents to the form

  • proof of roadworthiness of the vehicle (COC certificate or registration certificate issued by another Member State)
  • scan of the vehicle equipment document (towing device, etc.)

After checking the details and submitting the application, save the generated code to complete the vehicle registration at the municipal office of your choice, where you will submit the originals of the following documents

  • proof of roadworthiness of the vehicle (COC sheet)
  • proof of roadworthiness test , if the vehicle is not new
  • documentation containing the information required for the registration of the vehicle in the road vehicle register, if not contained in the certificate of roadworthiness
  • proof of payment of VAT, if the vehicle originates from another EU Member State
If you use a power of attorney to represent you, the written power of attorney must be signed by the authorised signatory.

Where and how to solve this service

As an applicant, you can submit your application at any time via the Transport Portal, and then complete the vehicle registration at any time at your chosen municipality.

The application is processed at the office upon submission of all documents listed in the law and payment of the administrative fee.

The fee for the registration of a road vehicle and for the issue of a registration plate varies according to the type of motor vehicle registered. 

For example, the fee for registration of a four-wheel motor vehicle is CZK 640.

When applying online, a 20% discount on the administrative fee is included.

Sanctions

As a natural or legal person, you commit an offence if you drive a vehicle that is not registered in the road vehicle register.

This offence is punishable by a fine of up to CZK 50 000.
