When selling or purchasing a vehicle, you must report the change of ownership. You can also use this service in the event of a change of ownership after the completion of inheritance proceedings.
The authority will verify that the vehicle has valid liability insurance.
This applies to you if
- You are buying a vehicle,
- selling a vehicle, or
- you have inherited a vehicle in probate proceedings.
You must register the change of ownership in the vehicle registry.
When to use this service
You must submit the application for registration of the change of ownership no later than 10 days after the sale of the vehicle is completed.

What you need if you are using this service
The current and new owners must appear together at the municipal office with extended powers within 10 days of the completion of the sale and submit:
- a completed application form,
- vehicle registration certificate (technical certificate).
If you use a power of attorney for representation, the written power of attorney must be signed with an officially certified signature of the principal.
It will take you no more than 10 minutes to complete the application.

You can submit your application in person or send it by mail to any municipal office with extended powers.
At the selected office, you will pay an administrative fee and pick up your new vehicle documents.
How much will you pay
The fee for registering a change of owner or operator of a four-wheeled motor vehicle is CZK 800.

What you need if you are using this service
As the original owner, you submit an application electronically on the Transport Portal, where you fill in the required information, including the new owner's details, and upload the following electronically:
vehicle registration certificate (technical certificate)
As the original owner of the vehicle, you provide the generated application code/link to the new owner to complete the application.
As the new owner of the vehicle:
use the code/link in the Transport Portal to load the prepared application, fill in the necessary information, and submit the application electronically directly from the Transport Portal.
Then go to the selected office, where you will submit the necessary documents, pay the administrative fee according to the fee schedule, and pick up your new documents.
You can also submit your application via a data box or by e-mail with a qualified electronic signature. You must submit the vehicle registration certificate in person when visiting the office.
If you use a power of attorney for representation, the written power of attorney must be signed with the principal's officially certified signature.

On the Transport Portal, select the municipal authority with extended powers that is most convenient for you and complete the change of ownership registration using the generated code/link.
At the selected office, submit your vehicle registration certificate, pay the administrative fee, and collect your new vehicle documents.

Filling up the form online will take you at maximum 10 minutes.
How much will you pay
If you submit your application via the Transport Portal, you will pay CZK 640 for registering the change of ownership of the motor vehicle. The fee for submitting the application via the Transport Portal is reduced by 20%.
If you submit your application via a data box or by email, you will pay CZK 800 for registering the change of ownership.
You will pay the fee in person at the municipal office with extended powers of your choice.
