If you are the owner or long-term holder of a live specimen of an endangered species that is subject to registration under § 23 of Act No 100/2004 Coll., on Trade in Endangered Species, you must register it with the locally competent regional authority; in the case of Prague with the Prague City Hall.

You are a natural or legal person who has acquired a specimen of an endangered species subject to registration.

The deadline for submitting an application for registration is set at 30 days from the acquisition of the specimen or from the expiry of the period by which the species to which the specimen belongs was classified as a species subject to registration.
In the case of the birth or hatching of pups in their own breeding, the rearing of which is recorded by the owner or long-term keeper in the breeding records pursuant to § 24(7) of Act No 100/2004 Coll., the time limit for registration of the specimen shall be extended by the period for which the pups are retained by the owner or long-term keeper, namely
- in young mammals for the duration of lactation, but no longer than 6 months of age,
- for eggs and hatchlings of birds or reptiles for as long as they remain on the nest or in the care of the parents, but no longer than 3 months of age,
- in the case of eggs, roe, embryonic stages and young other than those referred in above specified categories, not later than 3 months of age of the offspring from hatching or, in the case of development through embryonic stages, within 15 days of reaching the last developmental stage.

The application for registration should include:
- information proving the identity of the applicant (e.g. name, address, registration number, etc.);
- the original of the previously issued registration certificate in case of re-registration of the specimen with a new person;
- proof of origin of the specimen (e.g. import permit from a third country, evidence of acquisition within the European Union, etc.);
- information on the marking of the specimen (e.g. ring or microchip number) or other form of identification (e.g. identification by photograph in cases where the specimen cannot otherwise be unmistakably marked);
- in the case of breeding in Czechia, information about the parent specimens with their registration numbers.

A completed application with all supporting documents can be submitted in person at the filing office of the local regional authority, in the case of Prague at the Prague City Hall, or sent by post to its address.
In the case of natural persons not engaged in business, local jurisdiction is determined by the place of permanent residence, in the case of natural persons engaged in business by the place of business. In the case of legal persons, local jurisdiction is determined by the place of the registered office or the place of the registered office of the organisational unit.
