Provision of preventive educational care in an educational care centre

Main information

Educational care centres offer assistance to children, pupils and students, their families, schools and educational establishments in the area of inappropriate or problematic behaviour and the functioning of family relationships.

The client in the centre is a child, pupil or student from 3 years of age to the end of preparation for the profession, up to 26 years of age at the latest.

Parents, educators and other persons involved in education, etc., are understood as partners in cooperation.

The provision of the services of the educational care centre is possible after the informed consent of the legal representatives or the contract has been given in writing. The client, on the basis of a contract between him and the Centre, participates jointly in the fulfilment of individual tasks and objectives.

The aim of the Centre's activities is to educate clients on the causes and possibilities of preventing, alleviating or stopping behavioural disorders or risky behaviour, and to promote social skills such as communication skills, strengthening self-esteem, increasing healthy self-awareness, developing empathy, developing an emotional connection between the child and the parent, setting clear rules in the family, at school, practicing stress management, frustration, stress, aggression, anger and working with emotions, and more.

Activities are provided, for example, in the form of educational activities, therapeutic activities, consultations, individual and group leadership.

The centres also provide consultations, expert information and assistance to those responsible for education, pedagogical staff of preschools, schools and educational institutions in the field of education and education of children at risk or with manifestations of behavioural disorders and negative phenomena in social development and their integration into society.

Educational care centres provide three basic forms of care:

  • outpatient and field,
  • stationary (full-day),
  • boarding (residential).

The first and crucial form is outpatient work, where the client or legal representative and others go to the center for pre-ordered consultations, therapy and others. Some centers are also dedicated to school prevention of risky behavior and class diagnostics.

Another option is a client's attendance at a stationary department, which provides a group program to clients during extracurricular hours of daily professional and therapeutic care (at the latest until 19:00). Clients return home after the end of the afternoon program and after the end of the entire program are included in the subsequent outpatient care.

Another option is a stay of the client in the boarding department, which provides a comprehensive stay of usually 6-8 weeks. Here the care is partially paid for. During the stay of the child in the boarding department, his/her schooling is not interrupted. The stay is intended especially for children from six to eighteen years of age with various manifestations of so-called behavioral disorders, problems in relationship and communication with parents or in their wider social environment, etc., for whom at least a partial degree of motivation to change some of their life attitudes or to correct their failures can be assumed.

The condition for admission to the stationary or boarding department is prior outpatient cooperation and the elaboration of a basic individual program.

Part of the work of all types of centers is to support and strengthen positive family ties and the family as a whole. For this reason, an important condition is the interest and maintenance of cooperation of family members of the child.

This applies to you if

  • as a child, you have a problem with behaviour, emotions (anger, aggression, explosiveness, sadness, fear), school and education, or even with addictive substances, establishing friendly relationships, or you feel that it does not ‘work’ at home, no one understands you and you can no longer stand it at home or at school.
  • as a parent or educator, you have a problem with the upbringing or behavior of your child (or pupil(s), you have the impression that your child behaves at risk (he does not learn, does not manage his emotions, is explosive, does not follow the rules, ...) or you are not able to agree together, you are concerned about his/her healthy development or that he/she has already developed behavioral disorders (schooling, substance abuse, promiscuity, escapes from home, theft...).

The service may be requested by:

  • parent (legal guardian of the child);
  • a child over the age of 15 (a child under the age of 15 may request service, and the parent should be informed of the cooperation);
  • school or school facility.
