Initial Foster Care Grant

Main information

Initial Foster Care Grant is a one-time benefit intended for the purchase of necessary equipment for a child entering substitute family care. The authorised person is the caregiver (osoba pečující) who has taken the child into foster care or temporary foster care.

This applies to you if

You have taken a child into foster care/guardianship.

When to use this service

You can use the service if you are a caregiver who has taken a child into foster care/guardianship/temporary foster care. The caregiver is entitled to the initial foster care grant only once for the same child.

What you need if you are using this service

When submitting an Application for Foster Care Benefit – Initial Foster Care Grant, you need to fill out the form Application for Foster Care Benefit – Initial Foster Care Grant.

Please attach the following to the application:

  • ID card for all listed persons, birth certificate for children under 15,
  • If the maiden name is not stated in the ID card, attach the birth certificate,
  • A court decision on placing the child in the care of another person responsible for the upbringing (court decision on placing the child in foster care; court decision on placing the child in temporary foster care, court decision on placing the child in pre-foster care, court decision on appointing a guardian if the person is personally caring for the child) or a proposal submitted to the court for initiating proceedings to place the child(ren) in foster care, pre-foster care, or appointing a guardian, or a resolution on initiating proceedings to place the child in foster care, pre-foster care, or appointing a guardian if initiated ex officio,
  • A statutory declaration by the person about the start date of personal care for the child, who submitted a proposal to place the child in their foster care, pre-foster care, or for appointing them as a guardian; or by a person personally caring for the child during proceedings to place the child in their foster care, pre-foster care, or to appoint them as a guardian if initiated ex officio. The statutory declaration is submitted on a form prescribed by the ministry,
  • The regional authority's decision to register the person in the records of authorised temporary foster care providers according to § 27a(1) to (3) of the Act, if it concerns a person in the records,
  • A statement from the municipal authority of a municipality with extended powers that the applicant personally cares for the child, if proceedings for foster care, pre-foster care, or appointing a guardian were initiated ex officio or that the applicant personally cares for the child and this care is not clearly unfounded, if the applicant submitted a proposal to the court to place the child in foster care, pre-foster care, or to appoint them as a guardian (§ 16a(3) of the Act on the Social and Legal Protection of Children, if the application is by a person under § 2a(c) points 2 or 3 of the Act). 

Where and how to solve this service

Applications should be submitted at the contact point of the Czech Labour Office according to the place of permanent residence (place of residence) of the individual. What is the benefit of this service

The grant is intended for the person who has taken the child into foster care or guardianship. It serves to purchase necessary equipment for the child.

Appeal options

If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the initial foster care grant proceedings, you can appeal the decision within 15 days of its delivery. Submit your appeal with the regional branch of the Labour Office of the Czech Republic that made the decision on the benefit. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs will then decide on your appeal.
