Admission to a higher vocational school

You start the admission procedure for the first year of higher vocational school by submitting your application to the principal of the higher vocational school. Before applying, check whether the principal has announced the admission test and its content and format as a condition of admission. You can apply for admission to multiple higher vocational schools, there is no limit to the number of applications. The principal also stipulates the maximum number of students to be admitted, and if the expected number of students in the first round is not met, you can apply in subsequent rounds to the same or another higher vocational school. Entrance exams will be held on1Juneat the earliest .

You will receive an invitation to take the entrance exam in the first round of the admissions procedure from the school principal no later than 14 days before the examination, and for the subsequent rounds of the admissions procedure no later than 5 days before the examination. The invitation includes information about the requirements for the entrance exam.

In the admissions process, the school principal will evaluate you according to

  • an assessment of the knowledge acquired in secondary education and expressed on the secondary school report card,
  • the results of the entrance examination, if stipulated, and
  • other facts that demonstrate your suitable skills, knowledge and interest in studying.
All rounds of admissions must be completed by 30 October.

You must submit your application for the first round of admissions to the school principal by 31 May. If the principal announces further rounds of admissions, you must apply by the deadline set by the principal. The date of the last round of the admissions procedure will be announced by the principal so that the admissions procedure is completed by the last working day of October.

You send your application form to the higher vocational school at the address of the higher vocational school. The application can be submitted through the postal service or in person. There is no uniform application form, application templates are available on the websites of individual higher vocational schools.

Along with your application you must provide:

  • school-leaving certificate
  • and, if there is a medical fitness requirement for the relevant field of study, the application form must include an assessment of your medical fitness by a general practitioner or specialised physician as required for medical fitness to study the relevant educational program. Information about medical restrictions will be given to you by the school principal.

The benefit of being admitted to study at a higher vocational school is the possibility of obtaining a higher vocational degree upon successful completion of your studies, which entitles you to perform more demanding activities in your future profession and better employment on the labour market.

Možnosti odvolání

You can appeal against the decision not to admit you to study, which is decided by the competent regional authority or Prague City Hall depending on the location of the school. The appeal must be filed through the school principal within 15 days of receipt of the decision on admission or non-admission to education.
