Hlavní informace
After completing primary school or fulfilling compulsory schooling, you can continue your education at a secondary school. You may enrol in either a four-year programme, which ends with the school-leaving examination (maturita), or a three-year programme, which ends with a final examination and the awarding of a vocational (apprenticeship) certificate.
Education is available in full-time, evening, distance, online or combined formats. For all fields and forms of education in the first and second rounds of the admissions procedure, you apply using a single application form. On this form, you can list up to three fields of study without a talent exam and two with a talent exam, in order of your preference. An algorithm will allocate applicants to schools based on the results of entrance exams and stated preferences. However, an applicant with lower scores can never take the place of another with better scores solely because they ranked the school higher in their preference list. From the third round onwards, there is no limit to the number of applications you can submit, but each application may only include one school.
Once a secondary school announces an admissions round, it will publish the admission criteria, which can be found on the school’s website, at the school itself, and in the information system DiPSy. These criteria will tell you what will be assessed during the admission process, the scoring system, how many students will be accepted, and what documents must be submitted with the application.
For fields of study ending with the school-leaving examination (maturita), a standardised entrance examination is part of the admissions process in the first and second rounds, unless the field of study includes a talent exam. Each applicant may take the standardised exam twice, and for each subject, the better result of the two attempts will be counted. In addition, the school's headteacher may decide to hold a school-specific entrance examination and define its content. Therefore, the admissions procedure for a field ending with the school-leaving examination may include both the standardised and the school-specific exams. If the school does not meet the expected number of admitted students in the first round, it may open second and subsequent rounds until capacity is filled. From the third round onwards, the standardised entrance exam is no longer a compulsory part of the admissions process, even for fields ending with the school-leaving examination.
