Admission to a Multi-Year Grammar School

If you are a primary school pupil, you have the option to apply to a six-year or eight-year grammar school. You may apply to a six-year grammar school in Year 7, and to an eight-year grammar school in Year 5. You can submit three applications, each to a different multi-year (six-year or eight-year) grammar school. All selected grammar schools are listed on the application form in order of priority, i.e. by how important they are to you. If you are admitted, you will begin attending the relevant multi-year grammar school in the next academic year. Multi-year grammar schools are divided into lower and upper levels. At the lower level, pupils fulfil compulsory schooling.

A standardised entrance examination is always a compulsory part of the admissions process to a multi-year grammar school. Even if you meet the entrance requirements, admission is conditional upon the successful completion of the current school year at the primary school from which you applied.

You are a pupil in Year 5 (if applying to an eight-year grammar school) or in Year 7 (if applying to a six-year grammar school) of a primary school. Since you are a minor, your parents or legal guardians submit the application on your behalf, with your consent. You may take the standardised entrance examination twice, even if you apply to only one grammar school. All grammar schools listed on your application will consider the better result from each subject across both attempts.

You must submit the application form, including all required attachments, using the prescribed form.

You can submit the application with attachments by post, via a data box, or in person – each application must be submitted separately to each school. In the first and second rounds, all submitted applications are identical. From the third round onwards, each application is specific to one school.

Možnosti odvolání

Appeals against non-admission must be submitted through the headteacher of the respective school. The appeal against the decision not to admit an applicant is decided by the Regional Authority or the Prague City Authority, depending on the location of the grammar school.
