Hlavní informace
Conservatoires are specialised schools designed for exceptionally talented or gifted pupils in various fields of the arts. Conservatoire studies usually conclude with a final diploma examination (absolutorium), which awards a tertiary vocational qualification. However, students may also take the school-leaving examination (maturita) and obtain a secondary school qualification (taking the maturita is not compulsory). Only conservatoires offering study programmes tailored to their specific artistic focus provide the opportunity to obtain both qualifications – secondary with the school-leaving examination and tertiary vocational.
The aim of a conservatoire is to educate and train professionals in music or dramatic arts. Applicants are admitted after completing compulsory schooling, i.e. no earlier than the year in which they complete the final year of compulsory education at primary school or a multi-year grammar school. Applications may also be submitted by older candidates. The standard length of study at a conservatoire is six years. The first four years constitute secondary education (students may complete it with a maturita exam), and the final two years constitute tertiary vocational education, which ends with a final diploma examination. Submitting up to two applications to conservatoire programmes does not affect your right to submit up to three additional applications to other non-artistic programmes (i.e. without a talent exam) in the first and second rounds. If you apply to one conservatoire, you may instead submit one application to another artistic programme requiring a talent exam. From the third round onwards, there is no limit to the number of applications. To be admitted, candidates must demonstrate appropriate abilities, knowledge, motivation and medical fitness.
Before submitting your application, visit the website of the relevant conservatoire. By 31 October, the school's headteacher must publish the admission criteria.
Submitting an application to a conservatoire does not exclude you from also submitting (up to two) applications to a four-year secondary school programme in the same year.
A talent examination, held between 15 and 31 January, is always a compulsory part of the admissions process. To be admitted, candidates must demonstrate appropriate abilities, knowledge, motivation and medical fitness.
The general education subjects taught at conservatoires are significantly limited. The main focus is on specialised artistic subjects that prepare students for professional artistic careers. The course of study is therefore highly specialised.
Týká se vás to pokud
You are a suitable candidate if you are talented or gifted in music, singing, contemporary dance or dramatic arts, and ideally have a background from a primary art school (this is not mandatory). If you are a minor, your parents or legal guardians must submit the application to a dance conservatoire, but your consent is also required. Admission is conditional upon fulfilling the admission procedure requirements, in particular succeeding in the talent exam, whose content and format are defined by the school's headteacher.
