Transfer to another secondary school

The Schools Act allows a pupil to transfer from one secondary school to another. Upon transfer, the pupil ceases to be a pupil of one secondary school and becomes a pupil of another secondary school. As part of the transfer, the pupil may, but need not, change the field of education. The pupil has no legal right to transfer; the decision is made by the school principal to which the pupil intends to transfer. In the context of the transfer, the pupil "moves" from one secondary school to another and retains the status of a person continuously preparing for a future profession.

In deciding on a transfer, the principal of the school to which the pupil wishes to transfer may stipulate an examination as a condition of the transfer and determine its content, scope, date and assessment criteria. This examination must be taken by the pupil before the transfer decision is made, as it is only on the basis of this examination that the school principal will make the transfer decision.

If a pupil transfers to another secondary school and changes their field of education, the condition of the pupil's medical fitness is maintained if the new field of education requires it.

If the school principal accepts a pupil as part of a transfer, they are obliged to inform the principal of the school from which the pupil has transferred without undue delay. The principal of the original school is required to send a copy of the pupil's records to the pupil's new school within 5 working days of receiving information about the pupil's transfer.

Možnosti odvolání

Appeals against the rejection of a transfer request are decided by the regional authority or the Prague City Council, depending on the location of the secondary school. The appeal should be made through the principal of the school that refused your transfer request.
