Certificate for geology-related work and services

Main information

This service is intended for applicants wishing to obtain the required certificate for providing work and services in the field of geology, i.e. in designing, implementing and evaluating geology-related work (as defined by Act No. 62/1988 Coll. on Geological Work, as amended).

Proceedings to obtain such certificate are initiated by an application, which needs to be accompanied by relevant documentation (see below) and subsequently, by a test before a committee to ascertain knowledge of relevant applicable legislation. If applicants successfully meet all pertinent conditions, they will be issued with a certificate which is valid for an indefinite period of time.

Professional competence / expertise is certified in the following areas:

  • Surveys of geological structure
  • Deposit geology
  • Hydro-geology
  • Engineering geology
  • Environmental geology
  • Remediation geology
  • Geochemistry
  • Geophysics

These areas are then specified on the round stamp of an authorized provider of geology-related services.

A natural person applying for a certificate needs to meet the following conditions:

  • Good standing,
  • University degree in natural or technical sciences focusing on geology and a three years of relevant practice, or a completed secondary education in the field of geology in conjunction with five-year practice in the field,
  • Participation in resolving geology-related assignments; this is demonstrated by authoring or being a member of an authorship team solving geology-related assignments, in the area(s) of desired certification, or by authorship of professional publication(s) focusing on the desired areas of expertise,
  • Expert level of completed work,
  • Successful passing of a test on legal regulation related to geological practice (hereinafter "knowledge of legal regulation").

Act No. 62/1988 Coll., defines conditions for organizations which are authorized to carry out geological work, inter alia the condition that these works or services need to be managed by a natural person who is a holder of a professional competence certification for designing, implementing and evaluating geology-related work (authorized provider of geology-related work and services).

What you need if you are using this service

Certificate application requirements:

  • Name and last name, attained academic title or scientific rank, date and place of birth, permanent residency address and contact details (phone and/or email);
  • the area(s) for which certification is applied for,
  • criminal registry extract not older than six months,
  • documentation demonstrating relevant education: Secondary school graduates will need to submit officially certified copy of a leaving diploma confirming successful completion of secondary education – leaving certificate (in Czech: maturita) from subjects focusing on geology. Graduates from higher professional colleges will need to submit officially certified copy of discharge documents. University graduates will need to submit officially certified copies of their diploma, certificate of the final state exam or similar document issued by an university, which demonstrates graduation and academic title. If the submitted documents do not offer sufficient proof that these conditions have been met, the application must be accompanied by additional documentation confirming completion of studies. Graduates of foreign schools submit similar documentation confirming completion of the required studies;
  • Information demonstrating length and focus of completed professional practice related to designing, implementing and evaluating geology-related work and services accompanied by a list of professional activities in the field and a list of completed services (projects, intermediate or final reports and their parts and other professional work) in the given area(s) for which certification is desired, which the applicant authored or participated in the overall solution as a member of a team. In the event of larger number of completed work / projects, applicants may list only selected projects, which they consider representative for their field of expertise;
  • Selected projects, intermediate and final reports and other professional work / studies, which the applicants submit to demonstrate their professional competence and ability to manage projects for designing, implementing and evaluating geology-related work.

Documents submitted by applicants for the following areas:

  • Deposit geology: at least one projects and one report,
  • Other areas: at least one project and two reports, or other professional work, as the case may be.

In cases where applicants cannot submit a project, they may substitute it by a report.

Projects and reports in which applicants only participated, shall be demonstrated by a solemn affidavit specifying that part of the project or report, which the applicant authored.

If any of the submitted projects / studies or reports or their parts constitute a commercial secret of the person who commissioned the work / order the service, applicants shall specify this fact in their application.

How much will you pay

The administrative fee is CZK 1000 and payment and the fee can be paid in cash or by card during the test day at the Ministry or by a bank transfer to the Ministry's bank account (see FAQs).

What is the benefit of this service

The benefit of the service is the issue of the certificate, which allows you to carry out certain activities in the given – certified professional field of expertise with legal authorization.

Appeal options

An application may be made to the competent authority that issued the administrative decision for its revocation.

An application may be made to the competent authority that issued the certificate for its rectification or revocation.

The fee can be paid by a bank transfer to the bank account of the Ministry of the Environment No: 19-7628001/0710
