What you need if you are using this service

You must go to the nearest embassy to report the loss or theft of your identity card. You will give your personal data, i.e. name, surname, date of birth, permanent residence, etc.

Where and how to solve this service

ou can apply to any embassy abroad.

The embassy to which the loss, theft, danger of misuse of data in the identification certificate or destruction of the identity card or its finding has been reported, shall immediately forward this information to the municipal authority of the municipality with extended powers that issued the identity card.

The embassy will issue you with a confirmation of the loss, theft or destruction of the identity card or the risk of misuse of the data in the identification certificate.

An identity card ceases to be valid when its loss, theft or destruction or the risk of misuse of data in the identification certificate are reported.

Lost and stolen documents are listed in the identity card registration information system. The number of the identity card and the date of loss or theft are also shown on the website of the Ministry of the Interior in its database of invalid documents. This database is mainly used by banks and other financial institutions, making the misuse of lost or stolen documents more difficult.

Lost and stolen documents are also kept in the Schengen Information System and in the Interpol database and this makes it more difficult for the document to be misused abroad.
