The holder meets the obligation of surrendering an invalid travel document or a travel document filled with official entries (visas, transit stamps) as imposed on him/her by the Travel Documents Act.

When to use this service
As the holder you are obliged to surrender a travel document, if it has expired for any reason, or the travel document is filled with official entries such that no other entry can be made in it, such as a record of crossing state borders or the recording of a visa.

Where and how to solve this service
An invalid travel document or travel document filled with official entries must be surrendered to any authority competent for its issue, abroad to an Embassy of the Czech Republic, or on request to the Czech Police authorities. You may only surrender a travel document or a travel document filled with official entries to the Ministry of the Interior if you are apply for a passport within 24 hours of a working day or within 5 working days. These authorities will issue you with a receipt for the surrender of the travel document.
Any authority competent to issue a travel document, a Czech Embassy or the Czech Police of the Republic may retain an invalid travel document if you have not complied with the obligation to surrender it, or a travel document that can reasonably be considered invalid by their decision (e.g. a damaged travel document or a travel document whose holder has substantially changed his/her appearance).
An authority that has retained a travel document must issue you with a certificate of retention of the travel document and send the travel document without delay to the issuing authority, stating the reason for the retention.

If the holder does not surrender an invalid travel document or a travel document filled with official entries, he/she commits an offence, for which a fine of up to CZK 10,000 may be imposed under the Travel Documents Act.
