How voters can check whether they are registered on the electoral register or in an annex thereto

Main information

Every voter who is entitled to vote in municipal council elections may contact their municipal authority to check whether they are registered on the electoral register or in an annex thereto.

Voters registered as Czech citizens who have permanent residence in a given municipality are registered on the electoral register. Voters registered as citizens of another EU Member State who are registered as residents of the municipality and have requested to be listed as voters are registered on an annex to the electoral register.

This applies to you if

You are a voter in a municipal council election.

A voter is:

• a Czech citizen,
• who is at least 18 years of age on the second day of the election,
• and is registered as a permanent resident of the given municipality on election day.

The same also applies for citizens of another EU Member State who hold confirmed temporary residence in Czechia or hold a permit for permanent residence in the municipality.

A voter who has permanent residence in the municipality and is a Czech citizen is automatically registered on the electoral register.

A citizen of another EU Member State who meets all the eligibility conditions must request entry on the electoral register to be able to vote in municipal council elections.

When to use this service

You may check whether you are registered as a voter on the electoral register or in an annex thereto at any time.

However, bear in mind that if you want to be registered on the electoral register or in an annex thereto, you must request to be included on the list no later than 2 days before election day (i.e. by 4 p.m. on the Wednesday before the election).

File your request with your municipal authority at your place of permanent residence (or, if you are a citizen of another EU Member State, with the municipal authority at the place you are registered as a resident in Czechia).

In Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzeň, Ústí nad Labem, Pardubice, Opava and Liberec, this is the office of the relevant city district; in all other locations, this is the office of your city borough.

• proof of your identity and citizenship, in particular by presenting your ID card (or alternatively your passport, if you are a citizen of another EU Member State),
• if you are a citizen of another EU Member State, proof of your identity through your permanent residence permit or confirmation of temporary residence in Czechia.

What is the benefit of this service

If you are a voter registered on the electoral register or in an annex thereto, you can participate in public life in your municipality by electing your representatives.

Appeal options

You can check with your municipal office at any time to verify whether you are registered on the electoral register or in an annex thereto.

If you notice an error, you can request that the information be corrected or added to. The municipal authority must comply within 48 hours, or inform you in writing of the reasons why the request cannot be complied with.

All voters also have the option to take the matter to the Regional Court, if they find errors or shortcomings in their data on the electoral register or in an annex thereto.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to ask to be entered into an annex to the electoral register before every election?

No. You will be automatically entered into the annex if you continue to meet all the conditions (especially residence in the Czechia).

How long will I be registered in an annex to the electoral register?

Once you are registered in an annex to the electoral register, you will be recorded there until you yourself request deletion, or for as long as you continue to meet all the statutory conditions.
For example, if you move to another municipality in Czechia, you will automatically be listed in the electoral register in your new municipality. But if you leave Czechia completely, you will no longer meet the residence conditions and you will be removed from the register.
