Report filed with the Czech Social Security Administration by beneficiaries or other benefit recipients concerning facts relevant to entitlement to a pension or the amount or payment of a pension

Main information

Beneficiaries of pensions are obliged to notify the Czech Social Security Administration, which pays the pension, of any facts decisive for the beneficiary’s entitlement to the pension or the amount or payment of the pension, within 8 days.

You are fulfilling your statutory obligation by notifying the Czech Social Security Administration of facts relevant to your entitlement to a pension or the amount or payment of a pension. The Czech Social Security Administration obtains information from reports received from beneficiaries or other recipients of a pension containing relevant facts that may subsequently be used to adjust the amount of the pension you receive, the manner in which it is paid, to stop or release the payment of the pension or to review the duration of your entitlement to it.

Reporting obligation examples

Reporting obligation common to all types of pension:

If you are a beneficiary or other recipient of a pension, you are obliged to report a change in your permanent address or other residence in the Czech Republic or residence abroad (you can report this using the form available on the Czech Social Security Administration ePortal.

Old-age pension

If you receive an early retirement pension and begin gainful employment which results in you participating in a pension insurance scheme before reaching retirement age, you and your employer are obliged to report this. This obligation can also be fulfilled by simply co-signing the report sent to the Czech Social Security Administration by your employer.

Widow’s/widower’s pension

If you receive a widow’s or widower’s pension, you are obliged to file a report when you remarry.

If you are still receiving a widow’s or widower’s pension 1 year after your spouse's death because you are caring for a dependent child, you must report when the child is no longer classed as dependent, e.g. that the child has stopped training for a future profession.

Orphan’s pension

If you receive an orphan’s pension and you end or interrupt your studies earlier than indicated on the certificate of studies you submitted, or if you change the form of your studies, you are obliged to report this.

If you receive an orphan’s pension and, while doing a distance, evening or combined course of study, you begin gainful employment which results in you participating in a pension insurance scheme or receiving unemployment benefit or retraining benefit, it is your responsibility to report the fact in these cases too.

This applies to you if

If you receive any kind of pension and the facts decisive for the duration of your entitlement to this pension, or the amount, payment or provision of the pension, have changed, you are obliged to report this to the Czech Social Security Administration, as the pension payer, within 8 days.

Service settlement

What you need if you are using this service

In order to comply with your reporting obligation, you must send a written submission clearly stating the fact relevant to your entitlement to a pension or the amount or payment of a pension. You must include your birth registration number (or, if you are another pension recipient, the birth registration number of the beneficiary).

In some cases, the report you send must be accompanied by a document proving the relevant fact you are reporting, e.g. a school certificate confirming your graduation, a marriage certificate proving your remarriage, etc.

Where and how to solve this service

Step 1

You may report on a fact that determines your entitlement to a pension or the amount or payment of a pension:

  • in person with the district social security administration competent for your place of permanent residence, in Prague to the Prague Social Security Administration and, in Brno, to the Municipal Social Security Administration. The relevant social security administration will take note of the fact you report and you will sign to confirm the document. The social security administration will then forward it to the Czech Social Security Administration;
  • by post to the Czech Social Security Administration, or to the address of the social security administration competent for your place of residence, which will immediately forward your submission to the Czech Social Security Administration.

Contact details can be found on the Czech Social Security Administration website.

Step 2

The Czech Social Security Administration will assess, on the basis of the facts you have reported, whether there will be a change in your entitlement to the pension or the amount, payment or transfer of the pension.

  • If any of the changes occur, the Czech Social Security Administration will take the appropriate action. For example, it will withdraw your pension, stop the payment of your pension, adjust the amount of your pension (or even calculate the overpayment on your pension and order you to refund the amount unjustly paid). You will always be sent the relevant decision on the matter.
  • If there is no change as a result of the facts you report, the Czech Social Security Administration will not take any action, and will continue to pay your pension at the same amount and in the same way as before.

Step 3

If, as a result of the facts you report, there is an overpayment of the pension for a period when the pension was paid unjustly or at a higher amount than due, you will receive a decision from the Czech Social Security Administration about this. This decision will oblige you to repay the pension amounts to which you were not entitled.

How much will you pay

A fee is charged for submissions by post according to the valid price list of Czech Post or the postal institution abroad. There is no charge for submissions filed in person.

Additional information

What is the benefit of this service

By reporting facts decisive for your entitlement to a pension or the amount or payment of a pension in a timely manner, you avoid the unpleasant situation of having to reimburse the Czech Social Security Administration for any pension payments unjustly received. If you fail to report these facts in a timely manner (or do not report them at all), your pension may be stopped, reduced or withdrawn late, resulting in an overpayment that you will have to refund.
