Enrolment in the First Year of Primary Education

Main information

As the child's legal guardian (parent), you are obliged to register the child for compulsory school attendance between 15 January and 15 February of the calendar year in which the child is to begin compulsory education.

Parents may enrol the child either in the catchment-area school according to permanent residence, or in any other school listed in the Register of Schools.

As the legal guardian, your application for admission to a primary school must, in addition to the general requirements under the Code of Administrative Procedure, state the school from which the child is coming (or indicate that compulsory pre-school education does not apply to the child).

The school director publishes, well in advance, information on how the enrolment will be organised and carried out, in a manner customary in the locality and also in a way that allows remote access.

The published information also includes the admission criteria set by the school director.
Admission to primary education is decided by the school director in administrative proceedings.

This applies to you if

You are the legal guardian of a child who reaches the age of six by the end of August of the current calendar year.
