Main information
You can apply repeatedly for an extension of your long-term residence permit if you plan to stay in the Czech Republic for the same purpose as before.
This applies to you if
You have a long-term residence permit and it is due to expire.
You can only extend your long-term residence if you have a residence permit (plastic card with biometric data).
You can also apply for long-term residence for a different purpose (change of purpose) before your residence permit expires if you are no longer staying for the original purpose.
When to use this service
No later than the last day of your current long-term residence, and no earlier than 120 days before the expiry date.
During the application procedure, you are legally residing in the Czech Republic under the so-called fiction of residence, even if your current residence permit expires.

To apply online you will need:
If the Ministry of the Interior prompts you to do so, prepare also:
- medical report;
- a proof of payment for the insurance stated on the proof of comprehensive medical insurance.
Where and how to solve this service
You can apply in person at a Ministry of the Interior office or by post.
If you want to apply in person, make an appointment online or by phone beforehand.
How much will you pay
You will pay a fee of CZK 2 500, for persons under 15 years of age CZK 1 000.
If you apply in person, the administrative fee must be paid by credit card at a Ministry of the Interior office.
If you apply by post, the administrative fee must be paid by bank transfer via the payment details generator on the Information Portal for Foreigners.

What is the benefit of this service
Your residence permit will be extended and you will be able to continue your stay in the Czech Republic. You can also leave and re-enter the Czech Republic repeatedly and travel within the Schengen Area without a visa.
Appeal options
You can appeal against the decision within 15 days of the delivery of the decision. You can file the appeal in person or send it by mail (or electronically) to the given office of the MOI CR or to the head office of the MOI.
