Licences for business in the energy sector

Main information

The Energy Regulatory Office grants licences for:

  • the generation, transmission, distribution and trading of electricity;
  • the production, transport, distribution, storage and trading of gas;
  • the production and distribution of thermal energy;
  • the activity of market operators.
Every licence holder for business in the energy sector must be assigned an identification number (IČ).

If, as an applicant for a business licence in the energy sector, as a natural person, you have never been assigned an ID number, or have been assigned an ID number in the past which is currently invalid, the Energy Regulatory Office will assign/activate that ID number based on the application which you are obliged to make at the same time as the license application or during the ongoing licensing procedure.

This applies to you if

If you are a legal entity, a natural person or a natural person doing business, you meet the conditions for any branch (or multiple branches) of business in the energy sector and you intend to do business in the selected branch:

  • the generation, transmission, distribution and trading of electricity;
  • the production, transport, distribution, storage and trading of gas;
  • the production and distribution of thermal energy.
