A person who has obtained proof of primary, secondary or higher vocational education abroad may apply for recognition in the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic has concluded an international treaty on mutual recognition of educational documents with some countries.
A person who has obtained proof of primary, secondary or higher vocational education abroad may apply to the Regional Authority for recognition in the Czech Republic.
If the educational document is covered by an international agreement on mutual recognition of educational documents between the Czech Republic and the state that issued the document (Hungary, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia), the holder may use this document directly, or the regional authority will issue a certificate of recognition of the equivalence of a foreign certificate with the assignment of a specific field of education in the Czech Republic adequate to the foreign education received. The list of educational documents, the conditions and the purpose of their recognition always follows from the text of the relevant international treaty, and for a specific educational document it is always necessary to verify whether the treaty applies to it.
If the document is not covered by an international treaty on mutual recognition of educational documents between the Czech Republic and the state that issued the document, foreign educational documents are recognized (nostrified) on the basis of an application in administrative proceedings. In it, the regional authority always assesses the content and scope of education completed in a foreign school for each specific application and on this basis assigns a Czech field of study, with which it then compares foreign education. The result of such proceedings may be the recognition (nostrification) of a foreign certificate, but the Office may also order an additional examination or reject the application for nostrification. The corresponding Czech field of education must be specified in the nostrification clause.
