The school principal decides about the acceptance of an applicant for education at secondary school or conservatory based on:
- evaluation in the report cards from previous education
- results of unified examinations, if these are part of the acceptance procedure
- results of school acceptance examinations, if stipulated
- results of talent examinations (fields with a talent examination and conservatories)
- other facts which demonstrate the adequate skills, knowledge and interests of the applicant.
As for fields of education with a school leaving examination, except for fields of education with a talent examination, unless this is a field of education at gymnasia with sports preparation (GSP) and abbreviated study, a unified acceptance examination is taken comprising a written test in mathematics and in Czech language and literature. Persons who have acquired prior education at a school outside of the Czech Republic may be excused from taking the unified examination in the Czech language based on their request. During the acceptance procedure, their Czech language skills are verified in an interview.
Uznávání základního, středního nebo vyššího odborného vzdělání dosaženého na zahraničních školách
For the first round of the acceptance procedure, the adult applicant or legal guardian of a minor applicant (hereinafter the appliance) may submit 2 applications, in other rounds the number of applications is not limited. In choosing, applicants for study at secondary school may use the Infoabsolvent website, which is only in the Czech language.
Upon conclusion of the acceptance procedure, the school principal will publish the list of accepted applicants. Applicants not accepted will be sent a decision of non-acceptance. An applicant that was accepted for education at secondary school must confirm their intent to attend the given secondary school by submitting a registration slip to the school principal, at latest within 10 business days from disclosure of the decision. The applicant may submit the registration slip only once. The applicant may file an appeal against the result of the acceptance procedure within 3 business days from delivery of the decision. The appeal is submitted to the school principal.
