Admission procedure for admission to secondary school or conservatory education

The text summarizes the conditions of admission of the applicant to secondary school or conservatory, both to the first and higher grades of secondary school.
First year

Applicants who have completed compulsory education or have successfully completed primary education may be admitted to the first year of secondary school. Only applicants who successfully complete the fifth year of primary school in a given school year can be admitted to the first year of an eight-year grammar school and an eight-year conservatory; only applicants who successfully complete the seventh year of primary school (or the second year of an eight-year grammar school or an eight-year conservatory) can be admitted to the first year of a six-year grammar school and an eight-year conservatory. During the admission procedure, the applicant must meet the conditions for admission by proving medical fitness, if stipulated by a government regulation governing the system of educational disciplines, and meet the conditions of appropriate abilities, knowledge and interests.

The admission of an applicant to education in a secondary school or conservatory is decided by the director of this school on the basis of criteria that must clearly determine for each round in which school, into which field of education, or into which focus of the school educational programme, into which form of education, or whether it is an extension or shortened study, the admission procedure takes place.

The secondary school (director) sets uniform admission criteria for each round of the admission procedure and publishes, together with these criteria, the method of evaluating their fulfilment and other details of the organisation of the admission procedure.

All information on the admission procedure for the first year of secondary education is available at www.prihlaskynastredni.cz.

Senior year

The headmaster may admit applicants to a higher than the first year of secondary education. As part of the admission procedure, the headmaster of the school assesses the applicant's evidence of his/her previous education and may set as a condition of admission the completion of the examination, including its content, date, form and evaluation criteria. The examination must be in accordance with the framework educational programme of the relevant branch of secondary education. In the event that the headmaster decides to recruit a candidate, he or she shall determine the year in which the candidate will be placed.
