Recognition of basic, secondary or post-secondary vocational education completed at foreign schools

A person who has acquired a document of completed basic, secondary or higher vocational education abroad may ask the regional authority for its recognition in the Czech Republic.

If the document is issued by a country that has concluded an international agreement with the Czech Republic on mutual recognition of education documents (Hungary, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia), the holder may use them directly, or will be issued a certification on recognition of equivalent foreign education. The list of documents of education, conditions and purpose of their recognition differs for the individual countries listed above.

If the Czech Republic has not concluded an international agreement on mutual recognition of education documents with the country, the foreign education documents will be recognised based on a request in administrative proceedings. The outcome of such proceedings may be the recognition of a foreign report card, if foreign education is similar to the educational program in the Czech Republic. However, the office may also order an additional test or reject the request for recognition.
